Used Hammer Mills for Sale

The job of a hammer mill is to shred or crush material into smaller pieces by the repeated blows of small hammers mounted on a vertical or horizontally rotating shaft.

The material is passed through the chamber of the hammer mill and once the desired size is reached, it exits through a sizing screen. Hammer mills can come with or without screens, which separate particle sizes.

Hammer mills are used in a variety of industries and applications:

  • Ethanol production (breaking down of grains)
  • Fluff pulp defiberizing
  • Wood chipping
  • Fruit juice production
  • Crushing large rock
  • Size reduction of trim scrap and planer shavings into boiler fuel or mulch at sawmills
  • Shredding paper and municipal waste
  • Shredding scrap automobiles
  • Milling of feed for farm animals
  • Shredding yard and garden waste for composting

Types of hammer mills for sale:

Rock Crushing Hammer Mill

This kind of hammer mill has a high shaft speed which enables the hammers to shatter rocks on impact. The material is fed into the hammer mill on an inclined plate. The pieces bounce off the plate and continually hit hammers until they’re small enough to exit the mill through a grate at the bottom.

Grain Grinding Hammer Mill

This kind of hammer mill consists of a rotor and a cylinder made up of several plates connected to the main axle or shaft. On the outside of the rotating cylinder is a perforated screen which separates the particles. Models may include single, double or triple reduction with either rigid or swinging hammers.

Screenless Hammer Mills

Screenless models use air flow to separate particles and were invented because the replacement of the screen can be a costly and inconvenient repair.
