A feeder is a peice of machinery designed to regulate the flow of materials from a bin or hopper through a mining, manufacturing or industrial chemical process. There are several types of feeders:
Apron feeders, also known as plate feeders or apron conveyors, resemble conveyor belts - but instead of a solid belt, a series of overlapping trays or pans carry the material. This type is common in mining and food for moving large bulk material.
Belt feeders are short conveyors designed to move fine material and particulate.
Screw Feeders consist of a long auger which, while it rotates, propels material. These are found in industries from mining and milling to food, pharmaceutical and chemical.
Vibratory Feeders use gravity and vibration to move materials down an incline. These are commonly found in mining and chemical operations.
Other types of include chain, roller, rotary vane and Vibrating Grizzly feeders.
