Rotary Vacuum Drum Filters are horizontal drums with perforated exteriors covered with a filter cloth and internal vacuum pipes that are designed to be partially submerged in a trough of liquor. The internal vacuum pipes create suction on the outside of the drum. As the drum rotates the liquid is pulled through the filtrate cloth, forming cake on the outside of the drum where it is removed by a scraper or knife as the drum rotates and before the cake is dipped back into the trough. Rotary Vacuum Drum Filters are applied to process and waste slurries for filtering, clarifying, cake washing and extraction, and dewatering in industries such as inorganic and organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biotech, plastics, food products, minerals, electric power and other utilities. Models include the Komline Sanderson Model I-1322, Komline Sanderson Model KS-1-585, Komline Sanderson Model BDF-1358, and much more. Some of the advantages to the rotary vacuum drum filter is that it is a continuous and automatic operation, giving it a low operating cost; The variation of the drum speed rotating can be used to control the thickness of the cake; the process can be easily modified (pre-coating filter process); and the filter can produce relatively clean product by adding a showering device.
