Overview

Used 33,003 lb/hr Flash Drying System. Manufactured by GEA Barr-Rosin. Engineered for continuous drying of wet materials such as filter cakes or slurries into fine, uniform powders. Previously designed for a food-grade application (corn starch). This system processes up to 33,003 lb/hr (14,970 kg/hr) of wet feed with 36% moisture, yielding 23,733 lb/hr (10,765 kg/hr) of dry product at 11% moisture, with an evaporation rate of 9,270 lb/hr (4,205 kg/hr) and a heat requirement of 15.9 MMBtu/hr. Wet material from an upstream dewatering system enters the Stirring Pan (STPN-11), where agitation ensures a consistent feed. A variable-speed Feed Screw (SCRF-11) then transfers the material at a controlled rate into the dryer, maintaining an air seal. The Cascading Screen (CASC-11) disperses and deagglomerates the wet feed into a hot air stream within the Venturi Section (DVEN-11). Drying occurs as the material travels through the Drying Column (DCOL-11) and Flash Drying Duct (DTBF-11), with air heated to 410°F (210°C) by steam and oil coils (HXST-11, HXTO-11). The system operates under suction, driven by an Induced Draught Fan (FANC-11), exhausting air at 140°F (60°C). Dry product is separated by four Primary High Efficiency Cyclones (CYVH-11), then collected via a suction discharge system. This subsystem uses two pneumatic lines and a Secondary High Efficiency Cyclone (CYCH-11) with a double rotary valve (RVAL-11 & 12) to discharge 23,733 lb/hr of product, minimizing emissions. Ambient air is filtered and heated, with airflow (49,000 ACFM) controlled by maintaining constant fan amperage and exhaust temperature modulated via feed screw speed. Ideal for crumbly, wet feeds. It leverages hot air and particle dispersion for rapid drying without moving parts in the airstream. Larger particles are recycled for further drying, while fine product exits with exhaust vapor, making it suitable for food, chemical, or pharmaceutical applications.
