A Gas Engine and Generator uses gas (Natural Gas, Biogas, Field Gas, Propane) fuel to power an engine. The pistons in the engine turn a crank shaft that spins an armature in the Alternator (genhead). Attached to the moving armature is a rotor inside a wire-wound stator. The Rotor can have permanent magnets, be brushless (induction), or use a small amount of reserved direct current (an exciter) introduced through an assembly of slip rings and brushes. The rotor generates a magnetic field around the stator, which causes a voltage difference between the windings of the stator. This produces the alternating current (AC) output of the generator.
Gas Engines and Generators come in sizes that range 30Kw at the smaller end to around 4000Kw in larger scale units. Some of the options that are available are exhaust silencers, remote controls for alarms, battery backups, vibration isolators, skid mounting, trailer mounting and wireless monitoring.
