UOP’s Hydrogen Polybed PSA Technology

Overview

Honeywell UOP’s Polybed™ Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology is a globally recognized solution for hydrogen purification and gas separation, with over 1,000 installations in more than 70 countries. It’s designed to maximize hydrogen recovery and purity while minimizing energy use and operational costs.

The system uses proprietary adsorbents that selectively remove impurities like CO2, CO, N2, CH4, and H2O, allowing high-purity hydrogen (up to 99.9999%) to pass through. Recovery rates often exceed 90%. Its modular, scalable design supports a wide range of capacities and applications across refineries, petrochemical plants, hydrogen production facilities, and more. Advanced automation enables precise control, real-time monitoring, and minimal manual intervention. The units are energy-efficient, compact, and engineered for durability and low maintenance.

Polybed™ PSA technology serves in hydrogen purification from SMRs, gasification, and electrolysis, as well as hydrogen recovery from refinery off-gases, syngas processing for ammonia or methanol, fuel cell hydrogen production, and biogas upgrading.

Its major advantages include cost-effective high recovery, proven reliability, scalability, environmental benefits, and strong technical support. These features make Polybed™ PSA a trusted, adaptable, and sustainable choice for today’s and tomorrow’s hydrogen markets.
