What are the Benefits of Using a Paddle Dryer?

Paddle drying is a form of indirect drying and is an efficient method to dry wet slurry. Another method is direct drying, but it has its drawbacks. A substantial amount of heat is wasted in the exhaust process. In addition, the creation of dust and foul smells may require specific equipment to be removed.

Indirect drying solves many of these issues because of its enclosed design and gas-free processing. This makes it ideal for safe and eco-friendly treatment of noxious, toxic or flammable products.

Paddle dryers provide volume reduction (by reducing wet material to dry, for example). This reduces trucking and landfill costs. Also, due to the extreme heat that destroys pathogens, the end result is a Class A biosolids product that can be legally used as fertilizer on farms or home gardens.

How Does a Paddle Dryer Work?

A paddle dryer contains a heated vessel and heated rotating paddle shafts. These heated wedge-shaped paddles are used to process material without the use of gas (like a traditional dryer). As the wet contents are processed, it undergoes several drying phases until the final product exits the machine via an adjustable overflow.
